Nobel Prize in Physics Awarded to 2 American Scientists for Innovations in Machine Learning and AI
John J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for their groundbreaking discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning through artificial neural networks. The announcement was made by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences from Stockholm on October 8, at 3:45 PM Bangladesh time.
The Nobel laureates will receive a Nobel medal, a diploma, and a prize of 11 million Swedish Krona, equivalent to approximately 12.8 crore Bangladeshi Taka. If there are multiple winners in a category, the prize money will be divided equally among them.
Hopfield is recognized for creating a structure that not only stores information but also reconstructs it, while Hinton has developed a method for independently identifying features within data. This work plays a crucial role in the neural networks used today, significantly advancing the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
